Print Your Own Bingo Cards
I’m fairly sure that most people know how to play the game of bingo. For those who don’t, the game is played:
1. Each of the players is given a card. The card contains a grid (usually 5 by 5) with a different number in each square (there is often a special “free space” square in the center of the grid).
2. When play starts, the announcer calls out numbers one at a time. If the number matches an item on their card, players check off the corresponding square.
3. When a player achieves an agreed upon pattern of marked off squares (usually a line of five in any direction, or two overlapping lines of five), he calls out “bingo!”. The first player to do so is the winner.
It is possible to buy ready-to-use bingo cards, but an alternative option is to print the cards yourself using your computer. Printing the cards yourselfm allows you to play themed variants of the standard game. In these variants, the bingo cards are not printed with the usual numbers, but instead contain words, phrases, or perhaps even math problems.
These themed versions of bingo can played as a leisure activity to celebrate holidays or other occassions - for example, if you wanted to play Christmas bingo, you would use words or phrases relating to the holiday. Additionally, themed versions of bingo are increasingly popular in education, especially K-12 and English as a Second Language (ESL) - more and more teachers are printing their own bingo cards, and thus using bingo as a classroom activity.
